Rwanda Broadcasting Agency (RBA) is the national public broadcaster of Rwanda, established under Law N°42/2013 on 16/06/2013. This legislation transformed the former state-owned Office Rwandais d’Information (ORINFOR), in operation since 1963, into a public agency dedicated to excellence and service in the broadcasting sector.

Historically, ORINFOR served as a government mouthpiece for conveying official narratives and ideologies to the populace through various media channels. Recognizing the significant influence of the media in societal mobilization, especially evident during the tragic events of 1994, there arose a necessity to transition from a state-centric broadcaster to an entity catering to public needs and interests.

The establishment of RBA in 2013 marked a pivotal shift towards a broadcasting institution independent of governmental directives, aiming to represent the voices and concerns of the Rwandan public. Known for its previous inefficiencies, ORINFOR had engendered a demand for an organization with a renewed mission. Thus, RBA emerged to fulfill this role with a focus on engaging content creation.
